Livestock Group

Livestock
The Team
The farm's livestock are cared for by a committed team of volunteers who cover a daily rota ensuring the animals are fed and cared for. A committee meets regularly to discuss the issues and co-ordinate the diverse activities that contribute to the overall farm plan.
Educational
The practicalities of rearing Livestock provide many learning opportunities bringing an appreciation of local food and small-scale farming issues. Our group includes a wide range of backgrounds and experience providing many opportunities to learn and work together in a rural environment.
Fertility Building
Livestock are an important part of our soil fertility building programme. Whilst the majority of feed is still bought in, from local suppliers, we are slowly producing more and more crop residual that aids the animals' health and goes back into the ground.
Local Food
Most of the larger Livestock are reared for meat and taken to a local abbatoir to have back as joints, chops and delicious sausages. Those who have contributed to the care rota get first dibs on the produce, but it is available at very competitive prices directly - please enquire. We are still quite small-scale so supply is quite intermittent, however, by buying direct from us you are helping support the project for a more reliable future supply.
